Fishing heavy cover
Most all fish stage in some type of cover... Especially bass. They
lurk in the shadows of logs, bushes, and stumps. It gives a
predator the perfect ambush point.
I like flipping a heavy jig or single blade (thumper) spinnerbait.
Learn to pitch or flip the bait beyond the cover and crash it back,
bumping it against something as often as you can. You'll get
hung every once and a while, but you'll also get bit more often.
Use this technique in rising water. Bass will usually hold real tight
during rising muddy water and won't venture out very far from
cover.
